In conjunction with the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation’s Week of Giving, All Risks Houston headed out to volunteer with Houston Pets Alive! on Friday, October 20, 2017. All Risks is the largest independent wholesale insurance broker in the country, and they are dedicated to giving back to communities through their employees.
Paige Addison, Brokerage Underwriter for All Risks, chose Houston Pets Alive! for their Week of Giving volunteer activities, because she believes they save pets who are at the end of the line.
“They take in the ones that no one else wants,” Paige said.
Lindsey, an Associate Broker for All Risks, was glad to be a part of Houston Pets Alive! providing a temporary home to pets while they wait to get adopted.
“It’s nice to see all of these pets safe and getting the treatment they deserve,” Lindsey said.
On their day of volunteering, they completed tasks like filling dogs’ water bowls and cleaning up the pet treat and toy areas. One of their favorite parts was visiting with every dog in the Stella Link shelter! They plan on going back because it was a great experience.
“I would love to go back and help in any way needed,” Paige said. “Everyone there was very nice and they made it clear that they really appreciated our help.”
No strangers to helping pets in need, all four All Risks employees are pet lovers! Charlie has a Chocolate Lab named Ryder. Joe has a Golden Retriever-Border Collie mix named Regal. Paige has 12-year-old Chesapeake Bay Retriever-Blue Heeler mix named Chessie Blue who she got from a man who was giving them away in a Wal-Mart parking lot and a 4-year-old Mastiff named Nala who her boyfriend rescued from Fort Worth. Lindsey has a golden retriever named Maggie who she took in after her neighbors no longer wanted her.
Joe Neeley, Property Broker for All Risks, has been volunteering for Houston Pets Alive! since August 2017 when he helped foster Bill after Hurricane Harvey.
“Although it was a lot of work, it was fun to see Bill heal and transform,” Joe said.
The group understands the important role volunteers play for both themselves and the animals.
“The animals benefit from the socialization,” Paige said, “and I benefit from a sense of accomplishment and giving.”
