New Distemper Treatment Shows Promise

There’s a new treatment for distemper helping dogs across the nation and more locally at Houston Pets Alive! It’s Vitamin C. That’s right the same vitamin that helps you fight a cold is being used to treat distemper with promising results.

Vitamin C is an important constituent in cellular functions; without it there is cellular breakdown.  Massive doses of ascorbic acid have an inhibiting effect on viruses such as distemper by rebuilding body cells and tissues, thus enhancing resistance to viral invasion.

Houston Pets Alive stepped in to help BARC when they saw a rise in distemper cases at their shelter. HPA has been treating dozens of sick dogs and has been seeing improvement in them.
